Artist Jean Dubuffet
Jean Dubuffet is a French Painter, Printmaker, and Sculptor
His early artwork was influenced by outsiders. He was attracted to the art of children and people who were mentally ill, therefore he tried hard to promote their artworks by collecting it and promoting the notion of Art Brut. In the early 1960s, he established a profoundly new and graphic style technique, which he called "Hourloupe."
Dubuffet confronted the public with childlike images that mocked the traditional art, while the public was looking for qualifying art and restoration of old values.
Dubuffet did not really tried to develop “Hourloupe”, but it was made by chance when he was on phone and was doodling. Hourloupe consist clear and thick black lines and the cells the lines form. The cells are sometimes filled with bold colors. He believed that the style of art reveals what is in the artists’ mind. This contrast between physical and mental representation later encouraged him to create sculptures.
Looking at his painting, it seems like they are random figures and there is no object at all. It even looks like tons of socks piled up together. However, if it is seen carefully, you can find some human figure, and some animals as well. What is interesting is that he didn't just stop at drawing but went further to make these paintings as sculptures. They are extended and expanded to create space.

Rauschenberg preferred to leave the interpretation of his artwork to the audience, therefore he allowed them the chance to choose the arrangement of his artwork.

Korean Artist Nikki S. Lee K
Nikki S. Lee is a Korean-born artist living and working in New York. Since 1997, she has been exploring multiple dimensions of social identity, and has been taking “snap-shot” self-portraits based on immersions into disparate communities (lesbians, drag queens, yuppies, Ohio trailer-park dwellers, skateboarders, senior citizens, Hispanic and Japanese street kids). Lee received a master’s degree in photography from N. Y. U., after training and working in commercial fashion photography.
Her art is generally about identity. As you can see, her self portrait looks a little bit different from each other and in one self portrait there are multiple layers. She explained that each of the portraits is expressing how she look differently when she was seen by different people (from different country). What is really great about her snap shots is that she not only took the photos but she actually lived the life for some amount of time. She really experienced all the different lives. People sometimes think 'What if I were ---'. She has been solving the question.
